4 suspects arrested as police recover 3 stolen vehicles

Police have apprehended four suspects linked to a notorious motor vehicle theft syndicate operating in Mombasa County.

In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the arrests came as a breakthrough in the ongoing battle against the theft gang that has been terrorizing residents.

According to DCI, the four suspects, identified as Mohammed Abdulswamad, Ashfak Abdulrazak, Abdulrazak Abdulswamad, and Ian Papa Lugho, were apprehended at Kadzandani area in Malindi.

DCI said the raid also yielded the recovery of three stolen motor vehicles, which had been reported missing from Kainat Trading Ltd Showroom in the Ganjoni area.

“Four members of a motor vehicle theft syndicate that has been terrorizing Mombasa County dwellers have today been arrested by a joint team of detectives based at the County’s headquarters and DCI Urban. The four, Mohammed Abdulswamad, Ashfak Abdulrazak, Abdulrazak Abdulswamad and Ian Papa Lugho were arrested at Kadzandani area, Malindi store yard belonging to Swabri Jamla who is still at large,” DCI said

The vehicles, a white Toyota Succeed, a silver Toyota Passo and a black Nissan Note were found concealed at a store yard belonging to Swabri Jamla, who remains at large.

The authorities are still in search of another vehicle believed to have been stolen by the same gang.

“The intelligence-led operation in which they were rounded up also saw the recovery of three motor vehicles; a white Toyota Succeed, silver Toyota Passo and a black Nissan Note. The three had been stolen from Kainat Trading Ltd Showroom in Ganjoni area. Search for one more vehicle believed to have been stolen by the same gang continues.”
