Residents living on the lower side of Ndakaini Dam have been put on high alert as the dam is expected to start spilling before Sunday midnight.
Those living in Thika town and along rivers Thika and Chania have been warned to be on the look out for imminent flooding due to the spillage.
County meteorological officer Paul Mirage on Sunday said the dam is a few inches from reaching its full capacity.
“We are projecting that the water reservoir could start spilling few hour from now and we people living in the areas likely to be affected have been duly alerted” he said.
He, however, allayed fears that there could be a dam burst saying there are two spillways to discharge the excessive water into the rivers.
The officer had last weekend projected that the dam could be full by the end of the week.
A warning had been issued to the people living in Ithanga, lower Gatanga to be on the look out of massive flooding.
The Water Resources Authority said the spillage from Sasumwa and Ruiru dams might worsen the situation.
The spillage of the two dams is being directed into the two rivers and the heavy impact shall be felt by those living downstream.
