Social media users, particularly on Twitter and Facebook, were awed by Gikuyu celebrated musician Samidoh’s humility despite the mega success he has enjoyed in music since he joined the industry in 2016.

Samidoh, 29, is also an administration police officer, who was transferred to the capital — Nairobi — after serving in Dadaab for years.

In an exclusive interview with Betty Kyallo, the father-of-two repeatedly said he owes all the success he enjoys today to God.

In the video-taped conversation aired on K24 Television on Friday, December 13, Samidoh, whose real name is Samuel Muchoki, recounted being brought up by his mother — a single parent — in Nakuru County. The musician said his childhood was ridden with challenges, given his mother was a peasant farmer, who engaged in menial jobs to feed, clothe and educate her children.

Samidoh said at some point life became so unbearable that he had to drop out of primary school.

Her mother’s friend, however, came to his rescue, when she managed to convince Samidoh’s head-teacher into readmitting him to school. The talented artiste would continue with his education uninterrupted, writing his KCSE exam in 2008.

“Getting a job, thereafter, became very difficult,” he said.

“It got really bad to the extent that I said I would approach my area DC in Nakuru and ask him for a job. I did exactly that. Given, I hadn’t furthered my education at the time, he asked me what I could do professionally, and I told him I wanted to be a cop. He asked me to run for a distance alongside other job-seekers, and I came second in the race. That is how he used his powers to help me join the disciplined forces,” said Samidoh, who has since gone ahead to pursue a diploma course in business information technology at the Technical University of Kenya (TUK).

The police constable would – in 2016 – launch his career in music after serving as a vocalist for a popular Gikuyu music band for a while.

And, his journey has been an undoubted success: he easily fills up stadia without much effort, and his music videos on YouTube enjoys nonpareil triumph among his peers.

Samidoh is a married man and a father of two young children [a son and a daughter]. He told Betty Kyallo that he met his wife in secondary school, and that his spouse is the only woman he hit on and ended up marrying.

“I was a very shy person. So, when I approached my wife in high school, and she smiled back at me and welcomed my advances, I was really impressed. She is the only woman I have dated in my entire life. I have no ex-girlfriend; I have never experienced a heartbreak,” said Samidoh.

Samidoh’s wife also said she had never dated any other man in her life besides her partner.
