A first-year university student took her own life at the Site and Service estate on the outskirts of Kericho town – police confirmed.

19-year-old Faith Charity Makhulu lost her life after she hung herself in the house using a manila rope.

“The student identified as Faith Charity Makhulu aged 19 years died after hanging herself using a manila rope suspended from the rooftop at the corridor of their residential house,” a report filed at the Kericho Police Station stated.

The lifeless body of the student was found dangling from the rooftop as her mother entered the room on Friday.

The deceased was 9 months pregnant when she took her own life by hanging.

The motive of the suicide could not be immediately established since she did not leave behind a note explaining her decision.

Officers from the Kericho Police Station visited the scene to recover the body which they took to the Kericho Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Investigations into the matter have been launched to establish the motive behind the incident.

Strange death

Elsewhere in Kitui County, a burglar lost his life while breaking into an electronics store in Mwingi.

CCTV footage showed the thief falling to his death while he was trying to break into the shop from the roof.

The surveillance footage from the shop captured the man falling on the floor at around 11:40 pm on Thursday night.

The burglar fell head-first onto the concrete floor.

He was seen in the CCTV footage writhing in pain for about 10 minutes before going silent – presumably the time he died.

The store owner Mulinge Kituo found the lifeless body in his shop at around 7:15 am on Friday, March 29, 2024, while opening. He quickly reported the matter to the police.

Police later arrived at the scene and took the body to the mortuary.
