A section of women groups and men across the country held peaceful protests against the prevalence of femicide in the country.
Protesters carried various placards with different messages as they pleaded with security agencies to move with speed and lock up perpetrators.
“Teach your son! Sisi ni watu sio wanyama” the protesters chanted.
In Nairobi, the procession began at Jeevanjee Gardens and proceeded to the Central Business District (CBD). Other parts of the country such as Kisumu, also held marches whereas others like Isiolo and Nyeri held their protests on Friday.
Different leaders such as Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, and her Kisumu counterpart Ruth Odinga were also at the front of the marches.
Speaking during the protest, Passaris called on the judiciary to handle the cases expeditiously and lock up the criminals.
“The judiciary should on their part handle the cases expeditiously and lock up the criminals. We have to deal with the causes of the violence. The causes cannot be cured by the woman representative but the entire society,” she stated.
Leaders such as Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru took to their different media platforms to condemn the recent killings.
The protests follow the recent macabre killings of more than five women within a month, the most recent being the brutal murder of Rita Waeni who was strangled before being dismembered.
Other victims who brutally lost their lives include 26-year-old Starlet Wahu, Harriet Moraa (19), and Stella Adongo (21) among others.
