Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has accused Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale and Governor Fernandes Barasa of fighting him for political gain.

In a statement on Sunday, Salasya claimed the two politicians lack a good political following in the western county, yet he has a remarkable following.

“The reason people like Boni Khalwale and Fernandes Barasa are fighting me is because they don’t have a following… if today I call a meeting of 20,000 people they will come. Them they can’t (sic),” Salasya stated.

The first-term MP says his constituents are comfortable with his leadership, hence he will not be cowed by his naysayers.

“I will not accept any intimidation. Leadership comes from God as long as mtu wa chini ako satisfied with my leadership hawa wengine tutakimbizana nao tu,” he added.

On Saturday, the MP claimed that his vehicle had been stoned by goons four times, without anyone being arrested and charged by the police. He however did not mention the people behind the attacks.

“This is the fourth time this vehicle is being stoned and me being attacked but no single individual has ever been arrested and questioned why …when God is still on my side I will continue to forgive them 70×70 times,” Salasya said.

This comes a day after Khalwale called for retrospective voting following a video of Salasya violently attacking a man at a funeral.

“Our leaders have gone mad. From an MP shooting a DJ to another one shooting a man dead, to others pitting rival goons against each other and now to this! Kenyan voters must seriously retrospect,” Khalwale stated.

It is not yet clear why the MP accused Barasa of fighting him.

Salasya attacks man

In the video, the controversial MP while addressing mourners was heard giving instructions to the victim to exit the stage in vain.

He would later attack him before his security detail intervened briefly disrupting the ceremony.

The MP was arrested after the attack and was released on Ksh50,000 cash bail pending his arraignment on Tuesday, January 16.
