Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has promised that the assassins of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani alias Sniper will be brought to book.

In a statement on Friday, Kindiki said detectives are piecing together evidence to pin down those who funded and executed the murder.

He said that detectives are making the final touches to bring to book the perpetrators, who are currently on the loose.

“Those responsible for organizing, financing and executing the cruel murder of Daniel Muthiani, alias Sniper, have a date with justice. Detectives are concluding the process of identifying the evil perpetrators, including those who lured the young man to his death and those who tortured, murdered and dumped his body in an attempt to conceal the terrible crime,” Kindiki stated.

Muthiani’s murder

Muthiani was reported missing on December 2, 2023, before he was found dead on December 16 on the banks of Mutonga River in Tharaka Nithi county.

An autopsy conducted at Marimanti Level 4 Hospital Mortuary revealed that the deceased was tortured before being strangled to death.

According to government pathologist Johansen Oduor, Muthiani had strangle marks on his neck and also exhibited signs of a person who lacked oxygen. He also noted that the blogger sustained injuries on his head and suffered fractured ribs.

The postmortem examination of his body also showed that it had decomposed after staying in water for several days.

“There were no signs of struggle and he seemed to have been completely subdued to a level that he could not fight back. We have taken some samples of organs that will be subjected to toxicology tests to establish whether there were substances used to achieve this,” Oduor said.
