Four people died in a road accident on Wednesday morning after their vehicle collided head-on with a truck at Man-eaters area in Voi Sub-County on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
Twelve others sustained injuries and were rushed to Moi County Referral Hospital for medical attention.
Voi Sub-County Police Commander Bernastein Shali blamed the accident on human error.
He said preliminary reports indicated that the driver of the Mombasa-bound passenger matatu was attempting to overtake a trailer headed to Nairobi on a continuous yellow line, which has a blind corner.
The 3.00am accident created a huge traffic jam as police moved to pull the wrecks out of the road.
“Man eaters is a black spot and the driver was trying to overtake at a corner. He collided head on with the incoming canter,” said the sub-county police boss.
Both drivers survived but sustained minor injuries. The bodies were taken to Moi County Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Man-eaters area in the busy highway is considered a black spot where several accidents have been reported in the past.
Shali urged drivers to be cautious and observe all traffic laws to avoid wanton accidents, especially during the current wet weather.
