Haitian Police Chief Mr Frantz Elbe is on a three-day official visit to Kenya for bilateral security discussions.

Elbe has been in Kenya for the last three days, with his visit kept under wraps by Kenyan authorities, with his visit ending today.

Elbe was accompanied by Haiti’s Director of Criminal Investigations Frédéric Leconte who visited the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kenya.

In a statement after Leconte met his Kenyan counterpart Amin Mohamed, DCI Kenya announced that the two countries could hold joint training programmes in future.

“The Director of Criminal Investigations in Haiti Mr Frédéric Leconte led a delegation of top officials in a visit to DCI headquarters, where he engaged his Kenyan counterpart Mr Mohamed Amin on exchange programs that could see the investigators from both countries hold joint trainings aimed at sharing best practices,” DCI Kenya stated.

Haiti crimebusters benchmarking

DCI Kenya indicate that the talks could see Haiti’s crimebusters benchmark with the Kenyan team, as a way to help the gang-infested country regain stability.

“Acknowledging the investigative capabilities of DCI-Kenya, Mr Leconte expressed his officers’ readiness to benchmark with the Kenyan team, noting that the country’s crime fighters had contributed pragmatically to regional safety, especially in combating transnational organized crimes,” DCI Kenya added.

Leconte also toured the DCI National Forensic Laboratory, thereafter holding elaborate discussions with the Head of Forensics Dr Mwangi Wanderi and other experts, on areas of partnership in the analysis of evidential material and crime scene support.

This comes when the Government of Kenya plans to deploy part of its police force in Haiti to restore peace.
