Why Lwam reached my client several times: Lawyer of late Fidel’s alleged lover

Lwam Bekele, the widow of Fidel Odinga, has reached Phoebe Akinyi Ogweno, the mother of 4-year-old twins allegedly sired by the late Fidel, in a bid to settle a property row out of court.

Akinyi’s lawyer, John Swaka, told K24 Digital that Lwam has initiated communication with his client on several occasions.

This comes after the administrators of the late Fidel Odinga’s estate asked the court to allow the parties involved in a battle over control of the multi-million-shilling property to settle the matter out of court.

Justice Aggrey Muchelule allowed Akinyi to be enjoined in the matter, and that the parties are given 14 days, beginning November 13, to call a truce, failure of which, the court will be forced to hear and give its ruling on the dispute.

Three weeks ago, Akinyi objected to have her twins subjected to DNA tests, saying she was not interested in the late Fidel Odinga’s property, and that she is the one who knows the father of her children.

In court papers filed by Akinyi on October 18, her lawyer John Swaka said his client was against the taking of the DNA test that had been ordered by Justice Muchelule the previous week.

Akinyi said the DNA test results will negatively affect her children psychologically and dehumanise them.

Akinyi further stated that she was not interested in the estate of the late Fidel and that Ida Odinga, Fidel’s mother, was using her [Akinyi’s] twin-children to fight Lwam.

Akinyi’s lawyer told K24 Digital that the woman was neither a second wife to Fidel nor a lover, they were just friends.

She further claimed that Ida has never seen the twin-children nor supported them, and that the Odinga family has not been part of the twins’ lives.

She, on October 18, applied to be enjoined as an interested party in the case pitting Fidel’s widow, Lwam, and her in-laws, Ida Odinga and Winnie Odinga.

“The petition is marred with ill and malicious motives creating a tussle with the deceased’s widow on one side and the deceased mother and siblings on the other side,” said her lawyer in the court affidavit dated October 18, 2019.

Akinyi told the court that her children were left in between warring parties and wanted an opportunity to clear the air and give her position on the matter.

Justice Muchelule ordered the DNA test as a pre-condition before continuing with the succession case in which the Odingas want to be granted letters of administration alongside Lwam.

When she objected to the Odingas’ request, Lwam said they had not included the twins children’s birth certificates.

But the twins’ mother said she had attached their birth certificates in her affidavits.
