The Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested three suspects who were allegedly offering a Ksh1.7 million bribe to a police officer to influence investigations.

The three, Philip Muigai Nduati, Boniface Aggrey Ouma and Isaac Wanaloba Kenyari are accused of attempting to bribe a police officer to influence investigations that she was carrying out relating to fraudulent deals at the Port of Mombasa.

“The Police Officer declined the Ksh1.7 million offer and reported the matter to EACC,” EACC stated.

The three were processed at EACC Mombasa offices and booked at Mombasa Central Police Station where they spent the night on Tuesday pending arraignment.

“They will be charged before the Anti-Corruption Court on Wednesday at 9:00 am. The Commission applauds the Police Officer who declined the bribe offer and instead reported the matter to EACC. This is what is expected of all public officials when they face such ethical dilemmas,” the anti-graft watchdog added.

OCS arrested for demanding bribes

This comes days after EACC sleuths arrested Ruai OCS for demanding Ksh5,000 bribes from persons who were booked at the station for allegedly being drunk and disorderly.

EACC detectives apprehended the OCS after investigations into a complaint received from relatives of some of the detained revellers that on Friday night, police officers from Ruai Police Station visited a Club called Fun City in the Utawala and arbitrarily arrested the revellers allegedly without any reasonable cause.

“The revellers were taken to Ruai Police Station where they were put in police cells until the following day, Saturday, when the OCS ordered each of them to pay him Ksh5,000 bribe in order to be released unconditionally. The OCS told the detainees that failure to pay the demanded amount would see each of them spend the entire weekend in police cells and face criminal charges of being drunk and disorderly, on Monday,” EACC stated.

The OCS was processed at Integrity Centre Police Station on Saturday night and detained at Kilimani Police Station.
