Peter Karanja, who is one of the suspects in Tob Cohen’s murder case, was on Tuesday afternoon arrested shortly after pleading not guilty to killing the Dutch tycoon.

Karanja, who was allegedly in constant communication with Tob Cohen’s widow, Sarah Wairimu, during Cohen’s disappearance between July and September, denied the charge before High Court judge Stella Mutuku.

Karanja was, thereafter, arrested in connection with a robbery with violence case that is active before a Naivasha court.

Following the arrest, Karanja’s lawyer, Francis Mburu, claimed that his client’s life was in danger after he allegedly received unspecified threats from a Gilgil-based OCS.

Karanja’s case was on Tuesday, November 12, consolidated with that of Sarah Wairimu, who also faces murder charge.

State prosecutor, Catherine Mwaniki, urged the court not to stop Karanja’s arrest, given the police officers were implementing an arrest warrant against the suspect “in another matter”.

The arrest warrant, K24 Digital understands, was issued on Monday, November 11.

Karanja and Wairimu were Tuesday afternoon charged jointly over Cohen’s murder.

Justice Mutuku ruled that the prosecution’s application to have the two charged jointly “was in order”, given the specifics of the charges they were facing were similar.

Wairimu remains free on the earlier Ksh2 million cash bail terms.
