Members of the National Police Service (NPS) have successfully completed a Training of Trainers (TOT) instructors’ development workshop on Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) that was held in Nakuru.
The workshop, which lasted for four days, was aimed at engaging master trainers in building the uptake of police training manuals within the national and regional police training colleges. The exercise comprised officers drawn from various NPS training colleges across the country.
The workshop was organized by the Director of Criminal Investigations’ CVE Directorate with sponsorship by the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), the United Kingdom’s leading defense and security think tank.
Facilitators
The Executive Director of the ACES-Africa Center, Karanja Muraya, and Othman Mujahid Bwana, who is an independent consultant on preventing and countering violent extremism, were the facilitators.
“During the workshop, the participants were taken through various modules, including countering violent extremism, processes and drivers of radicalization and recruitment, and Kenya’s legal policy framework in response to terrorism and violent extremism, among others,” DCI said in a statement.
“By virtue of being instructors, the objective of the workshop also included preparing the participants to present information effectively, respond to trainees, and lead activities that reinforce learning while maintaining interest and dispelling confusion.”
The director in charge of the CVE Directorate at the DCI, Dennis Okadapau, was also present and lauded the participating officers for their dedication throughout the training period.
The skills acquired from the workshop are expected to help the officers disseminate the skills to learners across the National Police Service campuses in order to promote quality policing, especially in countering violent extremism.
