A section of Meru clergymen have called on President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to mediate in the spat between Members of County Assembly (MCAs) and Governor Kawira Mwangaza.

In a statement, the clergymen drawn from the National Independent Churches of Africa (NICA) Mission Diocese called on the President and his deputy to intervene urgently.

Led by the NICA Mission Diocese Bishop Stephen Kalunyu, the leaders noted that the tiff between Governor Mwangaza and the MCAs was slowing down developmental projects.

He also affirmed that the clergy was firmly behind the governor and urged the county leaders to find ways to resolve their disputes.

Impeachment ya gavana wa Meru its very unfortunate kwamba imefika hapo. Hatungependa tufike hapo. Tunaomba Mungu apatie viongozi wa hapa Meru guidance and direction ili Meru ipate maendeleo. Hatungependa hili jambo liwe halina suluhu la kudumu kwa sababu mara ya kwanza Meru ina viongozi wa Kanisa. Iko na gavana ambaye ni bishop, kasisi. Tutaomba ili suluhu ambayo itatokea iwe ni mapenzi ya Mungu,” he said.

The bishop additionally asked the governor to be humble and also apologise to the MCAs in order to redeem herself.

The remarks come barely after the Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders endorsed the impeachment of Kawira Mwangaza.

The governor faces a second impeachment motion after 57 out of 69 MCAs supported the motion

Njuri Ncheke secretary-general Josphat Murangiri while supporting the impeachment motion accused the governor of operating as a lone ranger.

“We are supporting the impeachment of Kawira Mwangaza as she has disregarded the call to work with all leaders in Meru County,” Murangiri said.
