Despite the vote counting being in progress on Thursday night, two Jubilee MPs, Kimani Ichung’wa and Nixon Korir, seemed to concede defeat in the hotly-contested Kibra by-election race.
“It was a good day because the people of Kibra had a choice to decide who they want to represent them in Parliament. As Jubilee, we are very happy because we had a candidate whom we had to sell in 60 days. Looking at the results so far that we have from the tallying centres as Jubilee, we can say already we have 30 percent of the results and our friends, ODM, are ahead of us,” said Mr Korir.
Comparing the results from what Jubilee garnered from Kibra in 2017, Korir said the party was proud to have doubled the 15 percent of total votes cast in the last election in the constituency.
“We want to tell them that we are already in the sitting room and in 2022, we will be in the bedroom,” the Langata MP said in an interview with NTV.
On the other hand, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa said that were it not for the violence in Jubilee’s “strongholds in Kibra”, they would have given ODM a run for their money.
Mr Ichung’wa made the statement during an interview with Citizen TV.
