James Kipkorir, who is a CDF member in Lang’ata Constituency, has been arrested on suspicion of engaging in voter bribery during the voting exercise in Kibra.
Kipkorir was arrested at Mashimoni polling station, where he had allegedly given out money to voters to elect Jubilee Party candidate McDonald Mariga.
Other voters who suspected Kipkorir was engaging in the illegality at 7am, beat him up, prompting police to intervene.
Confirming the incident to K24 Digital, Nairobi police boss Philip Ndolo said medics had to perform First Aid on Kipkorir before he was taken to Kilimani Police Station, where he is being held.
“We are investigating the voter bribery allegations leveled against him. As of now, we can’t authoritatively say he had bribed voters. But, we have asked the voters who allegedly received money from him to come out and record statements with police,” Ndolo told K24 Digital.
The Nairobi police boss said another suspect, a woman, was arrested at YMCA polling station, where she was allegedly engaging in voter bribery. She too was taken to Kilimani police post.
