Two suspected gangsters were on Wednesday evening (November 6) shot dead by Flying Squad officers at Njegas area in Kirinyaga County.

It is alleged that the duo, who were part of a five-member gang, had robbed a women’s group of their Ksh13, 000 at Kabare Village in Kirinyaga East.

The women raised the alarm, resulting in Flying Squad officers tracking the suspects down to Njegas area.

The suspected gangsters were travelling in a white Toyota Caldina, when a shoot-out between them and the anti-crime officers ensued. The two suspected robbers succumbed to gunshot injuries.

Three of their accomplices, however, managed to escape, Kirinyaga Central OCPD, Doreen Oduori, told K24 Digital.

Police recovered an AK-47 rifle with 12 rounds of ammunition from the deceased. Also confiscated, was the white Toyota Caldina, which is believed to be stolen property, vehicle registration plates, ID cards and three teargas canisters.
