Twenty six KCSE candidates were on Wednesday, November 6 arrested in Starehe, Nairobi on suspicion of engaging in exam fraud.

The private candidates, who were writing the exam at St. Teresa Boys’ Primary School, were also found in possession of 26 mobile phones, Starehe DCI boss, Martin Mbaya, told K24 Digital.

The owners of nine other mobile gadgets confiscated in the Wednesday crackdown are yet to be identified.

Mbaya said the sleuths are conducting investigations to find owners of the nine phones seized at St. Teresa exam centre.

The Starehe DCI boss said invigilators discovered that the suspects were receiving answers in real time on their phones during Chemistry Paper II exam on Wednesday. The person/people who were sending the answers are yet to be known.

“We will go on with investigations to establish the source(s) of the communication with the candidates, and those behind the racket,” Mbaya said.

He said the 26 suspects will be charged in court with exam fraud.

Mbaya was flanked by the Nairobi Regional Director for Education, Jared Obiero, and his TSC counterpart, Lillian Mwangi.
