An elderly woman was on Monday night attacked by unknown people in the Nyajuok sub-location, Alego Usonga sub-county, Siaya County.
The 80-year-old granny was gang-raped by the attackers who stormed into her house and committed the heinous act.
South Alego chief John Adhiambo Okinyo confirmed the incident, noting that the grandmother was taken to Ting’ Wang’i Health Centre for a medical check-up.
“The suspects are still at large. Investigations have already been launched to find and arrest them so that they can face the full force of the law,” he said.
Witnesses said the attackers forced their way into the granny’s house at around 8 pm.
Fredrick Odima said neighbours responded to screams for help from the granny only to find the rapists in the act.
The attackers fled the scene on a motorbike and disappeared into the darkness after neighbours responded to the screams by the octogenarian.
Odima noted that the suspects’ identities remain unknown as the rescuers didn’t manage to catch a glimpse of their faces.
The incident left residents in fear. They decried increased cases of insecurity in the area and called on authorities to take action to curtail such vices as rape.
