Mwingi Central Member of Parliament Gideon Mulyungi has denied attacking and touching a local businesswoman inappropriately.
In a press statement, Mulyungi said he learned through media reports that he harassed and touched breasts of one Rhoda Musyoka at her business premises in Mwingi town, insisting that the story was fabricated to damage his reputation.
The lawmaker further disclosed that he intends to sue the businesswoman, who he claimed has been organising goons to attack him.
“I am denying the allegations, that I committed the unlawful act, understanding that the said Rhoda Musyoka who I intend to sue, has been organizing gangs to attack me for political reasons” Mulyungi stated.
Mulyungi revealed that he had filed a complaint with the police over the attacks and two of the gang members have since been arrested.
According to the MP, the suspects were arraigned and charged at Mwingi Law Courts on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.
“With the intel shared with the police, already two of the gang members were arrested and arraigned in Mwingi Law Courts and charged for organizing goons armed with bows and arrows to attack me as the area member of parliament,” he added.
He claimed that the suspects were bailed out by the businesswoman in question.
“Already Rhoda has paid their bond of Ksh200,000 a clear indication of her involvement in planning criminal activities and their pre-trial of the case will take place on August 7, 2023,” the MP alleged.
Mulyungi claims that the recent assault accusations are meant to divert attention from the already ongoing case and taint his name as an honourable leader in society.
Rhoda had earlier alleged that the MP stormed her hotel and attacked her on accusations that her customers were bad-mouthing the legislator.
“I was in my hotel when area Member of Parliament Gideon Mulyungi came in with a team of around 30-50 people and said that I should explain why I have not taken any action on customers who have been gossiping about him in my hotel,” Rhoda narrated.
Rhoda alleges that the MP pushed, touched her inappropriately and broke her costly glasses during the attack.
The businesswoman alleged that she suffered injuries on her face in the scuffle.
“He pushed me, touched my breasts and broke my glasses worth 100,000, tried to push him away then he signalled his people to attack me but unfortunately they did not,” Rhoda said.
According to one of the customers, Schola Mwende, who was on the premises at the time of the attack, the MP attacked the businesswoman and injured her on her face.
‘”Mulyungi came and attacked Rhoda at her business premises but we talked to his goons telling them that there is no need to bring chaos in her business and ordered them to leave the hotel and they left peacefully,” Mwende said.
Later, some of the business owners and residents demonstrated peacefully in Mwingi town in solidarity with the businesswoman demanding action to be taken against the area member of parliament.
