Fear and unease have gripped Gwa Kimori village in Gatundu North, Kiambu County after unknown people began defecating outside various homesteads.

Most shocking is that the unidentified individuals have been stashing the human excretions inside polythene bags that are used to wrap cooking flours leaving them outside doorsteps at night.

Further worrying locals is that the crooks have, in some homesteads, been mixing the excretions with water stored in various tanks, a move that has sparked distress and fury among the locals.

The frantic residents blamed the horrendous incidents on the possibility of demons in the village which they claim to have been sent by a section of locals opposed to the construction of a 1.5-kilometre feeder road by Chania Ward MCA Joseph Kibuu to solve decades of movement strains among them.

Led by Margaret Nyambura, who recently found several loads of human excretions outside her doorstep, the residents claimed that the village has never had a public road, water and electricity, or infrastructural developments that are key to helping them grow their economic activities.

To have the projects done, the locals said the MCA had instructed them to remove structures and trees planted along the route mapped for the construction of a road, instructions that drew defiance among a section of residents who have been blamed for the horrifying acts.

“We cannot say that this happened because we don’t have toilets. We have them in all our homes and we believe the ugly incidents were orchestrated by people who don’t want developments in this village. The MCA had promised us a good murram road, water and electricity but some people have refused to get rid of structures along the mapped route,” Nyambura said.

Tabitha Njuguna, another resident whose homesteads the criminals dumped their excretions inside her water tank, told journalists that they have been spending sleepless nights trying to come to terms with what has befallen the village.

“I was shocked to wake up in the morning and find human excretions mixed with the water I had in the tank. I boiled the water but it turned yellowish and that is when I got rid of it as I suspected that all was not well. I believe these are demonic behaviours done by evil people,” Njuguna said.

“The defiant locals claim to have buried their loved ones along the route earmarked for the road but we continue to question how they buried them knowing well that a public road passes there. We want developments in this village and we commend the job that our MCA is doing,” John Njoroge, another resident, said.

Njoroge told journalists that the criminals have devised the worst ways to show their defiance by rerouting the road by marking locals’ land with an unidentified whitish substance.

“They did this at night and shockingly placed some of it on the graves. The unknown substance which looks like chalk powder has also been splashed on some of our farm produce which we cannot harvest or consume until we get to know what the substance is,” Njoroge added.

Worried by the sustained ‘demonic and criminal activities in the village’, the locals called for intervention by the local authorities saying that the criminals perpetrating the heinous acts might harm them and their children.

“We have already informed our assistant chief and the chief but we are yet to get a response from them. Action must now be taken before these criminals think of harming us,” Mary Kamau, a resident, pleaded.

They however upheld that the road must be constructed saying that it will end their suffering and ease mobility as well as improve transportation of their farm produce.
