Sarah Wairimu’s parents and two of her friends were directed by the High Court in Nairobi on Friday, October 11, to file testimonials at 3pm, accepting to accommodate Wairimu after Justice Stella Mutuku barred her from setting foot in her Kitisuru matrimonial home.

Wairimu, the prime suspect in Tob Cohen’s murder, was on Friday released on Ksh2 million cash bail or Ksh4 million bond and two sureties of Ksh2 million each.

Wairimu’s release comes 44 days after she was apprehended on August 28 on suspicion of being involved in her husband’s disappearance and eventual death.

Justice Stella Mutuku said the prosecution failed to provide compelling reasons to deny Wairimu cash bail.

Before she is set free on bail, the judge directed Wairimu’s parents and two of her friends to file testimonials stating that they are willing to accommodate the suspect, given she isn’t allowed to go back to her home, unless the court grants her permission.

“Wairimu must, however, state what she wants to collect from her home, and will be accompanied by the investigating officer,” the judge said.

The DCI was directed to continue confiscating the suspect’s passport pending further directions by the court.

The DPP said they will appeal against the ruling that grants Wairimu freedom on bail.

Meanwhile, Peter Karanja, another suspect in Tob Cohen’s killing, on Friday denied a murder charge pressed against him.

Karanja will continue being in custody, pending a bail application hearing scheduled for Thursday, October 17.

Justice Mutuku also directed that the two cases to be mentioned on November 12, when they will be consolidated. This is after the DPP, through Catherine Mwaniki, sought to have them consolidated.
