Rachel Ruto makes grand entrance at UN complex while cycling

First Lady Rachel Ruto made a statement on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, after she arrived to the Second United Nations UN-Habitat Assembly riding a bicycle.

The First Lady cycled from the State House to Gigiri for the event themed “A sustainable urban future through Inclusive and effective multilateralism: achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Times of Global Crisis.”

The event was inaugurated by President William Ruto on Monday, June 5, 2023, and will be held from June 5 to June 9, 2023.

“I am happy to have participated in this morning’s cycle ride from State House to the UN in Gigiri for the UN-Habitat Assembly,” the first lady said in a statement.

“As we ride through our memories and experiences, let’s promote respect between drivers and cyclists. Together we can create a society that values sustainable transport, promotes equality, and builds a safer future,” she added.

Rachel receives bicycles

Earlier Rachel had received bicycles worth Ksh27.6 million from the Republic of Korea.

She emphasized the importance of cycling and encouraged citizens to cycle to enable an eco-friendly environment and help reduce carbon emissions.

While acknowledging the importance of clean energy, the first lady insisted that bicycles played a vital role in the easy transportation of goods to the markets.
