In September last year, the New York Times hailed Eliud Kipchoge as the greatest marathoner, ever, for winning an unheard-of eight straight marathons.
The reigning Olympic champion is one of the most decorated marathoners on Earth, and on Monday night the Kenyan great set out to Vienna, Austria to make history, again.
Kipchoge was picked at the Eldoret International Airport on a private plane to head out to Vienna where he will attempt to become the first man to run over 42km in under two hours.
The Kenyan runner will make his second attempt in the Ineos 1:59 Challenge which is scheduled to take place on October 12, but has an eight-day window running up to October 20 because of weather conditions.
Two years ago, Kipchoge missed out on achieving the feat by just 26 seconds in an ineligible marathon created by created by Nike’s Breaking2 Project in Monza, Italy.
