A gang in Mukuru slums, Nairobi attacked and killed a member of Nyumba Kumi leadership over the drugs war in the ghetto.

Police while confirming the incident said the gang escaped towards the Mukuru Kwa Reuben area after attacking the Nyumba Kumi member Wycliffe Obara.

According to police, Obara and other local leaders had earlier raided a drug den in the area and destroyed it.

The operation was conducted by the area chief and other members of Nyumba Kumi who demolished structures they claimed were used in selling drugs and suspected stolen goods.

A gang in the slum went on a revenge mission after the slum authorities destroyed their drug den.

The gang of about seven men who were wearing facemasks ambushed Obara in his house on Saturday evening and slashed him to death.

The deceased suffered severe injuries after he was slashed in the head and legs.

He was picked up and rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said police are pursuing the gang behind the attack and that they are determined to address the drug menace in the area.

“We have a suspect who is helping us to get more information on the matter,” he said.
