Three police officers attached to Kayole post have been arrested on suspicion of robbing two residents of Eastleigh of their Ksh6.2 million.

Wilson Cheruiyot, Daniel Kipkorir and Alex Kandie, while armed with guns, allegedly stormed a hotel room on 8th Street 2nd Avenue in Eastleigh, Nairobi at 1:30am Saturday, where they robbed Mohammed Hassan and Abdullahi Hussein of their $60, 000 (Ksh6.2 million).

The three cops were in the company of three other men, including a Cameroonian, identified as Esome Jean Baptist, who has since been arrested.

After the robbers left, the victims, Hussein and Hassan, filed a report at Pangani Police Station at 2:30am, leading to the tracking down and subsequent arrests of the four.

Upon searching the suspects, police discovered that three of them; Cheruiyot, Korir and Kandie, were certified law enforcement officers attached to Kayole post.

Three guns (two Jericho pistols and a Ceska pistol) and 45 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the three cops.

Also recovered was $35, 200 (Ksh3.6 million) of the alleged stolen money and a mobile phone whose battery had been removed.

Police say they believe one of the two suspects, who escaped, is a senior cop in Kayole.

The other suspect, police say, was an “informer” to the gang.

The nabbed four suspects are being held at the Pangani police post.

Authorities are investigating the matter, saying they will also probe how Hassan and Hussein acquired the Ksh6.2 million.
