Two robbery with violence suspects were arrested and a firearm recovered after police raided an apartment in Yamumbi, Eldoret, Uasin Gishu county on Wednesday morning.
In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspects, Kevin Mwangi and Bonface Biwott, are believed to be behind a spate of robbery incidents in Eldoret town.
Prior to the arrest, the suspects, who were riding on a motorcycle, are said to have engaged police in cut-and-mouse games last night before police ambushed them at their rented house in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.
“The two Kevin Mwangi and Bonface Biwott, were ejected out of their rented house after defying orders to open the door during the early morning raid by detectives based at DCI Usin-Gishu, backed up by their counterparts from the elite Crime Research & Intelligence Bureau,” DCI said.
“Earlier, the two thugs who were on a motorbike had engaged our men in a hide-and-seek game that lasted a few hours last night, prompting the sleuths to abandon the chase and lay an ambush on their doorstep, instead.”
Gun recovered from robbery suspects
During the operation, police managed to recover a Glock pistol loaded with seven rounds of ammunition and assorted electronic goods suspected to be stolen property.
Also recovered from the house were a toy pistol and a bucket containing cannabis sativa, locally known as bhang.
The suspects are in custody and are helping police with investigations.
