At least three people are feared dead and several others injured after a bus belonging to Tahmeed company was involved in an accident near Kibunja along Nakuru-Eldoret highway on Monday, April 17, 2023.

The driver of the Nairobi-bound bus, who escaped the accident with minor injuries, told the press that he was avoiding colliding with an oncoming lorry when he lost control of the vehicle and knocked some students who were walking home from school.

Kuresoi North Police Commander Judah Gathenge confirmed the incident, saying the injured persons were rushed to Molo Sub-County and Nakuru Level 6 hospitals for treatment.

Meanwhile, the wreckage of the vehicle was towed to Mau Summit Police Station as investigations into the incident continue.

The accident occurred two weeks after 17 people lost their lives after a road accident involving a Pwani University bus and a matatu in the Kayole area in Naivasha.

Among the fatalities were 10 students and one staff member of Pwani University and the rest were passengers in the matatu.

Police said the students were heading to Eldoret for a sports event when the bus carrying over 30 of them collided with a matatu due to break failure.

Several leaders including Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu condoled families who lost their loved ones in the road accident.
