East African Legislative Assembly member Winnie Odinga says her family has been pressuring her to get married.

In an interview with a local publication, the last-born daughter of opposition leader Raila Odinga said she has been under constant pressure from her mother, Ida Odinga, to get married over the last couple of years.

The 33-year-old, however, indicated that she was young and in no hurry to get hitched or have kids.

“My mother started (the marriage talk) a couple of years ago but I told her to cool down on that talk,” Winne said.

With modern technology and science, Winnie said, she could even get a child at 80 years.

“I am young. I’m having fun. I’m in my 30s living life…There is a lot of science these days I can have a child when I am 80,” she added.

On her relationship status, the BrickHouse Counsel CEO revealed she is currently single, for the first time in nine years.

Winnie said she is yet to find a confident Kenyan man to marry her, alluding that being the daughter of the former prime minister, scares away most of her dates.

“I have not found the right person when I meet them, they start by being confident, kidogo kidogo politics, kidogo kidogo baba (Raila) calls me and they get shocked, I am yet to find that confident Kenyan man,” Winnie said.

The legislator said she is looking for a man who can understand and love her for who she is.

“I am still looking, you never know, but especially a Kenyan man,” she added.

“I don’t mind other cultures, but just somebody who understands me.”

Winnie’s role in Raila campaigns

Winnie was a key figure in Raila’s 2022 campaign team and never missed to accompany her father to various parts of the country to drum up support for his fifth stab at the presidency.

She had promised Raila’s supporters at a meeting with Mount Kenya Youths that she would wed on the lawns of State House if they elected her father as Kenya’s fifth President.

Raila, however, lost the poll to President William Ruto of Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
