The Department of Immigration Services on Thursday issued a notice to passport applicants that they should book appointment through e-citizen platform in order to collect their passports.

The department said the move is meant to reduce long queues at Nyayo House that has seen the applicants spend hours waiting to be served.

“Note that the passports are collected at the station where you took your biometrics,” the department said in a statement.

In the new rule, the applicants will be required to produce appointment slip, original national ID card and expired or old passport for those applying for replacements.

The directive comes days after the department  asked those applying for the crucial document to book appointment online before submitting their details for processing.

The directive, however, exempted sick persons who have urgent appointments to travel abroad for treatment, students on scholarships who require immediate travel, government officials on urgent assignments and business executives on demanding visits.
