A 35-year-old woman from Kanamkemer Location in Lodwar, Turkana County, was arrested on Thursday, July 18 after she allegedly scalded her husband with hot water over domestic wrangles.
Miriam Mahura was arrested and charged on Friday for causing bodily harm to her spouse.
Mahura, who was formerly married to the father of her six children, got into a relationship with her current partner, Ali Losit, recently. The two, neighbours say, have, of late, been embroiled in recurrent domestic disputes.
Losit said Mahura was boiling water, when a quarrel ensued between them.
“A few minutes into our argument, she scalded me with the boiling water,” said Losit, who is recuperating at a Turkana hospital.
According to the Turkana culture, it is a taboo for a woman to assault or cause bodily harm to her husband.
Should a woman do that, the culture stipulates banishment of the female aggressor as punishment.
The case against Mahura will be heard on Thursday, July 25.
