A 28-year-old man from Embakasi in Nairobi was on Friday, November 15, arraigned for allegedly battering his wife, 33.
The magistrate’s court in Nairobi was told that on Tuesday, November 12, Dominic Komen alias Victor Korir inflicted grievous bodily harm on his spouse Penina Muthoni Maina at their rented house in Murandi area in Embakasi Sub-County.
Senior principal magistrate Angelo Kithinji heard that Muthoni, a taxi driver stationed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, returned home and found Komen in bed with another woman.
The victim says she did not know that she would find her husband in the house, given he was expected to be at work on night shift.
“Upon arriving home, I found the main door locked from the inside. I peeped through our bedroom window and saw my husband in bed with another woman,” Muthoni claimed.
Upon raising the alarm, Komen refused to open the door, said Muthoni.
The 33-year-old victim claimed she had told Komen that she only wanted to pick her clothes and other belonging from the house, but her husband wouldn’t let her access the residence.
Muthoni claimed Komen decided to throw her clothes through the window one after the other.
“When I insisted that I wanted to personally pack my belonging, he came out and physically assaulted me,” said Muthoni.
All that while, Komen’s alleged lover remained unfazed in the house, said Muthoni.
The suspect is alleged to have slapped Muthoni in the face multiple times before strangulating her. His attempt to push her down the staircases was thwarted when neighbours intervened and saved the victim from further physical assault.
Muthoni sustained injuries to the neck and face, a medical report showed.
The incident was reported at a nearby police post resulting in Komen’s arrest and subsequent arraignment.
Komen denied the charge before senior principal magistrate Angelo Kithinji, and was freed on a Ksh20, 000 cash bail.
The case will be heard on March 17, 2020.
