A Meru University student, who was found dead in February this year, was on Tuesday, September 3, buried at his parents’ home in Kahethu Village in Gatanga Constituency, Murang’a County.
Nduati Mbuthia, 21, died after he allegedly jumped into a swollen river.
His decomposed remains were retrieved weeks later after a section of River Kiama dried up.
Mbuthia’s body was taken to General Kago Funeral Home in Thika, where it was stored until recently, when it was interred.
The body remained preserved in the morgue for nearly seven months as family waited for DNA examination results to be released.
K24 Digital understands that Mbuthia’s family ordered for several DNA tests to ascertain the identity of the man they were about to bury.
It is alleged that shortly before his death, Mbuthia was depressed.
Weeks to his alleged suicide, Mbuthia went missing from home. His friends said he was behaving in an “unusual manner”, and that he often complained that “certain people were chasing him”.
