Members of the Bungoma County Assembly have finally and unanimously agreed to pass the Constitution Amendment Bill 2020 after intense lobbying by local Senator Moses Wetangula.

The MCAS who were holed up in a crisis meeting with Wetangula finally emerged after several hours and declared they will pass the BBI bill on Tuesday, February 23.

“After consultations with area Senator Moses Wetangula, we have agreed to pass the bill after ironing out a few issues,” Said Bungoma County Majority Leader Joseph Nyongesa.

Nyongesa said they agreed to pass the BBI referendum bill because of the “respect” they have for Wetangula.

He said MCAs urged Wetangula to inform President Uhuru Kenyatta that they need more constituencies in Bungoma County.

Earlier, the MCAs had vowed to shoot the bill down if Governor Wycliffe Wangamati was bestowed the position of coordinator.

Wangamati has had a frosty relationship with the MCAs .

Speaking after the meeting, Wetangula said Bungoma will pass the bill because it promises equity and fairnes to the entire nation.

“This bill brings a sense of belonging to all citizens and ensure growth in all counties,” said Wetangula..

Wetangula said other things that had been discussed were “in-house ” and could not be divulged.
