Come January 2022, names of doctors and hospitals that have been sanctioned in medical malpractices will be published on the website of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
This was announced by the KMPDC chief executive Daniel Yumbya when he appeared on K24 TV’s Punchline show on Sunday.
“What we have published is the list of licensed facilities. Going forward we may have to publish the list of names of doctors who have been sanctioned…We can create a list of facilities that have been sanctioned,” said Mr Yumbya.
But the cautious Yumbya said the publication of the list of the doctors and facilities implicated in medical malpractices would be subject to sanctioning by KMPDC lawyers to avoid running into legal troubles.
“I must admit that the cases that are pending in KMPDC, about 50 percent are because of court injunctions…we can’t proceed because we would be guilty of contempt of court,” said Mr Yumbya.
Asked why the number of medical malpractice cases lodged with the KMPDC were on the rise in the last three years, Mr Yumbya said the spike was sparked by an awareness campaign on rights of patients.
