Wednesday blackout to hit parts of 9 counties
By Ascah Mwango, September 30, 2025Kenya Power has announced a planned blackout that will affect parts of nine counties on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
In a notice released on Tuesday, September 30, the utility company cited routine network maintenance as the reason for the planned outage. The power cuts will run between 8.00 am and 5.00 pm in some areas, and between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm in others.
In Nairobi, the blackout will affect parts of Parklands, including Kipkabus Road, parts of Ngara, Museum, Westlands Road, parts of Kipande Road, the Kenyatta University School of Law, Chemilil Road, Musembi Road, Qwetu and nearby customers.
In Kericho County, the areas to be affected include Kapsorok Concrete, Kapsorok Market, Kamalel Market and surrounding customers.
In Kiambu County, the outage will hit Kibichoi and Marige areas, including Komothai Boys, Komothai Girls, Kigumo, Gathugu, Gitombo, Gathiruini, Githioro, Mount Moriah, Kibichoi Shops and nearby customers.
In Murang’a County, the power cut will affect Tana, Makuyu and Ndithini areas, including Ndithini Children’s Home, Kaguku, Busyani, Ndithini Mission Hospital, Kiatineni Nduvuini Primary, Tana Ranch Primary, Tana Ranch and surrounding customers.
In Nyeri County, the affected areas include Sagana State Lodge, Kiganjo Fisheries, Karandi Market, Iruri Market, Iruri Dispensary, Iruri Village, Iganjo Village, Mutaga Village, as well as Safaricom and Airtel boosters and nearby customers.
In Meru County, the outage will affect Miathene and Kiandiu including Gimpine Primary, Thaari, parts of Kianjai, Uuru, Miathene, Kirukire, Kathiiri, Karimba Primary School, Miathene Kenya Medical Training College, Kanjalu Girls, Ithamare, Mwithu Coffee Factory, Giunku, Kiandiu, Kitheo and nearby customers.
In Kwale County, the blackout will be experienced in Lungalunga, Kilimangodo, Mwereni, Kidomaya, Horohoro, Mwananyamala, Mwangulu, Godo and surrounding areas.
In Kisumu County, Masawa Village, Obumba Secondary, Achuodho School, Kasarani Market, Land Matobe Village, Masawa Primary School and nearby customers will be affected.
In Vihiga County, the areas affected include Ilungu Market, Bunyore Teachers Training College, Ematsuli, Esirulo Water Pump, Isanda and surrounding customers.
