Some parts of the country will experience rainfall between August 6 and 12, 2024, the Kenya Meteorological Department has announced.

According to the weatherman, sunny and warm days are expected over most of the country initially, shifting to intermittent cold and cloudy conditions in the Highlands (East and West of the Rift Valley), South-eastern lowlands, and the Rift Valley.

The Highlands West of the Rift Valley and the Rift Valley  include Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho,
Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia, Migori, Narok, Baringo,
Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and West-Pokot Counties.

According to the forecast, low night-time temperatures (below 10°C) are anticipated in parts of the Central Highlands, the Rift Valley, and South-eastern lowlands.

On the other hand, high daytime temperatures (above 30°C) are forecasted for the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya.

“Sunny conditions and relatively warm daytime temperatures are expected over most parts of the country during the first half of the forecast period. These will give way to intermittent cold and cloudy conditions over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Southeastern lowlands and the Rift Valley,” the weatherman stated.

“Rainfall is expected to continue over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, North-western Kenya, the Rift Valley and the Coast. High average daytime (maximum) temperatures of more than 30°C will be experienced in some parts of the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya. Average night-time (minimum) temperatures will be low (less than 10°C) over some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands and the Rift Valley”

Sunny intervals are expected during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy although occasional afternoon showers and thunderstorms may occur over a few places in the Lake Victoria Basin (Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia and Migori Counties)

In North-western Kenya (Turkana and Samburu Counties), morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places occasionally spreading to several places during the first half of the forecast period.

Rain in the highlands

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley (including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi Counties), intermittent cloudiness, with light rains over few places, is expected in the mornings giving way to sunny intervals. Afternoon and night showers are expected over a few (mostly high-ground) areas.

In North-eastern Kenya (Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties), sunny intervals are expected during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy. However, morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers may occur over some parts of Marsabit County during the first half of the forecast period.

The southeastern lowlands (Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta Counties) should expect occasional cloudiness in the morning giving way to sunny intervals. Nights are likely to be partly cloudy.

In the Coast (Mombasa, Tana-River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties), morning and afternoon showers are expected over a few places occasionally spreading to several places. Nights are likely to be partly cloudy.
