The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecasted sunny and dry weather conditions for the next seven days in several parts of the country.
In a detailed seven-day weather outlook, the dry spell is expected over a few places from January 7 to January 13, 2024. The sunny intervals will be accompanied by moderate rainfall.
“Mainly sunny and dry weather conditions are expected to prevail over most parts of the country. However, occasional light to moderate rainfall may be experienced over a few areas in the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, South Rift Valley, the Coastal region, and the Southeastern lowlands,” Kenya Met said.
Moderate rainfall
In the advisory, the weatherman indicated that counties in the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valley, and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley may experience occasional afternoon showers throughout the week and moderate rains on Thursday.
The counties include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, and Narok.
“Mornings will mainly have sunny intervals, though a few areas over the South Rift Valley and Lake Victoria Basin may experience rains on Thursday.
“Occasional afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places. Nights are expected to be partly cloudy, though a few areas in Narok and Lake Victoria Basin may experience occasional showers,” Kenya Met said in the seven-day forecast.
While Nairobi and other regions in the Highlands East of Rift Valley will experience occasional showers in the afternoon with few areas having rainfall on Friday.
The regions include Nyandarua, Nyeri, Laikipia, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi.
“Morning sunny intervals are expected to prevail during this period. Occasional afternoon showers are expected over a few places. Nights are expected to be partly cloudy, though a few areas may have showers on Friday,” Kenya Met added.
Temperature
Temperatures are set to rise, with daytime highs exceeding 30°C in the Coast, North-Eastern Kenya, North-Western Kenya, parts of Western Kenya, and the South-Eastern Lowlands.
In the advisory, the weatherman also predicted cooler nights with temperatures dropping below 10°C in the Central Highlands, Central and South Rift Valley, and parts of the South-Eastern Lowlands.
“Average daytime (maximum) temperatures of more than 30°C will be experienced over the Coast, Northeastern, Northwestern, and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and Southeastern lowlands.
“Average night-time (minimum) temperatures will be less than 10°C in some parts of the Highlands East
of the Rift Valley, Central and South Rift Valley, and Southeastern lowlands,” it added.
