Nairobi County Women Representative Esther Passaris has slammed Kenyan on X for condemning her use of words while calling out police who brutally attacked a Multimedia University (MMU) student during the recent strike by the comrades.

In a statement shared on X, on Thursday, September 19, 2024, Passaris, while defending herself stated that the word she used was not out of context adding that the national government has structures mandated to deal with the rogue officers.

Additionally, the Women’s rep stated that Kenya is not a failed state even though the country has many failures.

She further urged her critic not to shy away from speaking her mind since all Kenyan citizens are responsible for calling out the wrongdoings in the country irrespective of their position.

“Too much English and you don’t know what I mean by ‘unprofessional’? Seriously. What’s wrong is wrong. The government has structures to deal with it. We are not a failed state; though we have many failures.

“By the way the ‘we’ includes you and me as citizens irrespective of our positions at work or the state of work. I am responsible, but I take no responsibility for that which I am not responsible for.

“Collectively ‘we’ are all responsible. Speak your mind. I too will speak my mind. You do not have more rights than I do. Get off your high horse of know-it-all-all. You don’t. Neither do I,” Passaris said.

Genesis of the feud

The dispute between Passaris and the netizen started after she commented on a video posted on X by a local TV station reporting about the viral police brutally insulating the MMU student.

Passaris used the word ‘unprofessional’ while calling out the rogue officers, however, the X user felt like her word choice was out of context.

“Unwarranted and unprofessional!”Passaris wrote.

The X user @WanjiruGithiomi further condemned the MP for supporting the Kenya Kwanza regime which according to her is responsible for violating the human rights of the citizenry.

“What do you mean ‘unprofessional’? This is outright criminal! Muthoni, as a vocal supporter of the KK regime, you are directly complicit in the brutality and oppression it has unleashed.

“You are aiding and abetting a government that is responsible for the torture and murder of young people, the mutilation of women, and the violation of basic human rights. Your loyalty to this despotic regime makes you vicariously liable for these heinous acts. Hold your peace- speak not!”@WanjiruGithiomi wrote.
