Wavinya Ndeti: Why Machakos County will collaborate with national gov’t
By Ascah Mwango, June 7, 2024Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti says the county will continue collaborating with the national government.
According to the governor, the county will receive more development projects that will benefit the region by working hand in hand with the national government.
Speaking in Masinga town during the groundbreaking ceremony of the construction of a modern market under the National Government’s Economic Stimulus Program, she revealed that the county had already secured eight markets and expressed confidence that more would follow if the collaboration continues.
“We have gotten eight markets, and I want to assure you that by working in collaboration with the government, we are going to get more markets,” Wavinya said in her address.
Wavinya, who was elected on a Wiper ticket under the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition, stated that only fools reject development.
“No one rejects development when it comes to them. Anyone who does is foolish. When development comes from the national government, it benefits us,” she added.
According to Wavinya, once the market construction is complete, the markets will be handed over to counties since markets are devolved. She went on to thank the National Government for the projects they are undertaking in the county.
“And when they construct a market, it is handed over to the county government because markets are devolved. I want to thank the national government for what they are doing for Machakos County and for the other projects we are doing together. In the market, there is no need for politics, there is no need for conflict over markets. All these things are coming to us. We must support those who bring assistance so that our Kenya can progress,” Wavinya concluded.
The current phase of construction will see three markets built in Mutituni, Kithimani, and Masinga. The markets will feature an exclusive area for lactating mothers to attend to their babies while at work.
