A pedestrian was killed and a teenager injured in a traffic accident on Thursday night June 6, 2024, when a water bowser veered off the road and struck them, authorities said.

The accident occurred around 9:00 pm near the Mlolongo chief’s office along the Gossip-Mlolongo Phase Three Road, according to Anderson Mbae, the Athi River East subcounty police commander.

Mbae detailed that the water bowser driver, whose identity remains unknown, lost control of the vehicle while driving from the direction of Gossip towards Mlolongo Phase Three.

“It happened that an unknown driver was driving a water boozer from Gossip direction towards Mlolongo phase three general direction. On reaching the location of the accident, he lost control of the said vehicle and swerved to the left knocking down the pedestrian on the spot,” Mbae said.

The same vehicle also struck 14-year-old Simon Kalunde, who sustained a chest injury.

The water bowser then plunged into a roadside ditch.

Traffic officers from Athi River police station processed the accident scene and transferred the deceased’s body to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary, where it awaits identification and autopsy.

The injured teenager was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The ill-fated water bowser was towed to Athi River police station pending inspection among other necessary actions.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause and identify the driver.
