Wajackoyah slams politicians over use of goons to intimidate rivals

Roots Party of Kenya leader George Wajackoyah has spoken out strongly against the growing trend of politicians using both state security and hired goons to intimidate their political opponents.

In a candid interview with K24 TV on Monday, July 21, 2025, Wajackoyah warned that Kenya’s political climate is dangerously drifting toward lawlessness and state-enabled oppression, likening it to Haiti’s descent into chaos.

Siasa ya Kenya saa hizi inaelekea upande wa kugeuza taifa liwe kama Haiti,” Wajackoyah said.

Mambo yote ya kudhulumu mwanadamu huwa inaanza hivyo.”

Positively engaging youth

He decried the government’s failure to implement sustainable strategies that would keep the youth positively engaged after school.

According to Wajackoyah, the lack of jobs and opportunities has left young people vulnerable to political manipulation, where they are recruited as tools of violence and intimidation.

Kama serikali ingekuwa imeeka mikakati ya kuarrest the situation kwa kupea hawa vijana kazi, hatungekuwa na maneno ya wanasiasa kutumia hawa vijana kwenda kufanya kazi ya uhuni,” he added.

Wajackoyah on hiring goons

Wajackoyah further criticised the disturbing trend of leaders using a mix of official security and hired gangs to appear powerful and suppress dissent.

Mimi sikubaliani na the current situation ambayo mwanasiasa sasa anataka aonekane ako na ulinzi wa serikali, mwanasiasa ako na dunia mzito ya magoons,” he said. “Hii mambo wanafanya sio mazuri—to intimidate their opponents using goons.”

The Roots Party leader called on the government and political class to uphold democratic values and respect the rule of law, warning that Kenya risks descending into violent anarchy if intimidation tactics continue unchecked.

His comments come amid rising political tension in various parts of the country, where confrontations between rival groups have disrupted events and threatened public safety.

Wajackoyah urged leaders to focus on issue-based politics and empower the youth through genuine economic opportunities rather than exploiting them for political gain.
