Governor Anne Waiguru has ordered the temporary closure of Kirinyaga County headquarters for a period of two weeks over a surge in Covid-19 cases.

The governor also directed the Health minister, Gladys Kimingi, to ensure that all county staff in affected departments are tested for coronavirus.

“As you are aware, countrywide, cases of COVID-19 infections have largely been exponentially rising with fatalities also significantly increasing. Kirinyaga County has not been spared these ravages either and the rate at which the infections have been spreading recently, especially at the County headquarters amongst county officers, despite the institution of infection prevention and control measures, has raised serious concern to the Executive,” said Governor Waiguru.

However, to ensure that the county continues to deliver services to the locals, Governor Waiguru urged staff to hold meetings virtually and be reachable on phone.

Waiguru said that her administration will continue monitoring the situation closely and will issue further guidelines and advice.

This follows what the governor termed “fatalities attributable to the COVID-19 disease.”
