Some 57 pupils have been taken to Kenyatta National Hospital after a classroom collapsed on them at Precious Talent School on Ngong Road in Nairobi County.

The wall collapse on Monday morning killed at least seven pupils, according to the Kenya Red Cross.

Dozens were reported trapped in the morning tragedy.

The school building in Ng’ando area collapsed at about 7 am.

After the collapse rescue teams from St John’s Ambulance and hundreds of locals dug through the ruble of building blocks and corrugated iron sheets to save trapped pupils.

Recent audits and demolitions in Nairobi City have focused mainly on residential and commercial buildings with little attention given to integrity of school structures.
