President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto, on Sunday coincidentally cancelled their planned visits to Murang’a County.
The Jubilee Party’s ruling duo were to attend separate events with President Kenyatta scheduled for a fundraiser at ACK St. Peter’s Cathedral in Kenol, Maragua Constituency while DP Ruto was to be at Githumu in Kandara Constituency.
Instead, President Kenyatta dispatched Cabinet secretaries, Dr Fred Matiang’i (Interior), James Macharia (Transport) and Joe Mucheru (ICT) to represent him while DP Ruto sent Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka.
Thousands of people had turned up at the Kenol church as early as 8:00 am eagerly waiting for Mr Kenyatta’s visit but only to get the rude shock that he had cancelled the visit, which had been officially confirmed.
Over the past few days, there had been debate as to why the two top Jubilee Party leaders should attend two separate occasions in the same county.
ACK St. Peter Cathedral Bishop Julius Karanu said he received a call from the President on Sunday morning, informing him that he would not be able to grace the occasion as he was expecting some guests.
