The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has notified motorists of the temporary closure of Uhuru Highway.
In a traffic advisory on Friday, June 14, 2024, KeNHA explained that Uhuru Highway will be closed between the University of Nairobi Roundabout and the Nairobi Expressway Exit.
According to the notice, that section of the road will be closed from Friday, June 14, 2024, at 11:00 pm to Sunday, June 23, 2024 at 11:00 pm.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority wishes to inform the public that there will be a temporary closure of Uhuru Highway (A8) between the University of Nairobi Roundabout and Nairobi Expressway Exit (Museum Hill Exit) along the Nakuru bound carriageway from Friday, June 14, 2024, at 11:00 pm to Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 11:00 pm,” the notice read in part.
The highway authority attributed the temporary closure to maintenance works set to take place on that section.
Traffic movement
Since Uhuru Highway will be closed between the University of Nairobi Roundabout and the Nairobi Expressway Exit, KeNHA has advised motorists intending to use Uhuru Highway (A8) Nakuru bound section to instead use alternative routes such as Nyerere Road, Arboretum Drive, River Side Drive, and Ring Road Kileleshwa.
Nonetheless, KeNHA has vowed to deploy traffic marshalls to assist those who will find it difficult to manoeuvre around that section due to the closure.
“Motorists using this road section are further advised to approach the affected section with caution,” the notice stated.
“Follow the traffic signs and guidance in place as shall be directed by Police and Traffic Marshalls on site. The Authority remains committed to ensure seamless connectivity to facilitate safe passage for economic prosperity.”
The notice comes a day after the authority announced traffic disruption on Mombasa Road. In the notice, KeNHA noted that the disruption will commence Thursday, June 13, 2024, to Sunday, June 16, 2024.
The affected area will be near the Katani Road Junction along the Mombasa-bound lanes.
“KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan and corporate with the police and traffic marshals who will be on site,” KeNHA stated.
KeNHA detailed the disruption is to allow for the construction of the mid-span footbridge foundation.
