President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday said that his administration has been working towards empowering women in the country.

Speaking when he presided over a military passing out parade at the Recruits Training School in Eldoret, President Kenyatta noted that several female soldiers had completed their training alongside their male colleagues.

This, the Head of State said, demonstrated that his government is committed to ensuring that the country achieves gender balance in the workforce.

“It is another manifestation that we strive to ensure equal opportunity for all. It is important that these women while working alongside men, find meaning and purpose for their work,” Kenyatta said.

His comments come amid expectations that the Head of State would comment on the advisory he received from Chief Justice David Maraga to dissolve Parliament over MPs failure to enact legislation on two-thirds gender rule.

He praised the military for their achievements in containing the spread of Covid-19 in their barracks and mourned those who died in service protecting the country from terrorists.
