Ugunja MP aspirant dismisses rigging claims ahead of ODM nominations
By Eric Juma, September 23, 2025Ugunja parliamentary aspirant Moses Omondi has dismissed claims that he was planning to disrupt the ODM party primaries scheduled for Friday, September 26, 2025.
Speaking during a meeting on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, Omondi said the petition was misleading and laughably premature, describing it as a desperate move by opponents who fear defeat at the hands of Ugunja residents.
He added that the claims were akin to “answering exam questions before the test is done” and urged his competitors to focus on engaging voters with ideas rather than drafting baseless claims.

Omondi also called on the ODM election board and party structures to remain firm, warning against being swayed by “sideshows” designed to derail the democratic will of the people.
“I remain committed to a peaceful, people-driven campaign and trust that the voice of Ugunja will be heard loud and clear on Friday at the ballot,” he said.
The claims had been raised by his competitor, Fredrick Owino, who filed a petition during the aspirants’ meeting, claiming that certain candidates were plotting to manipulate the election in favour of one contender.

The aspirant highlighted his strong grassroots support, saying he had interacted with electorates across Sidindi, Ugunja, and Sigomere since declaring his parliamentary bid.
He also noted the backing of Ugunja, Sidindi, and Sigomere MCAs, who have been mobilising voters in his favour.
Ugunja MCA Edwin Otieno praised Omondi’s campaign, asserting that opponents lacked the political influence to challenge him effectively.
“We are combing villages and lobbying electorates to stand by him, for he means well for the Ugunja people. The wind of change is blowing in favour of Omondi,” Otieno said.
The ODM primaries in Ugunja will determine who competes for the parliamentary seat, with Omondi, ZB Owino, and Joseph Otieno Aluru contesting for the party ticket ahead of the general by-election.
