UDA secures easy victory as 2 wards go uncontested in upcoming by-election
By Ascah Mwango, November 1, 2025The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has clinched early victories in two wards ahead of the November 27, 2025, by-elections after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared them uncontested.
In a Gazette Notice No. 15732 dated October 29, 2025, the IEBC confirmed that no other candidates were validly nominated in the affected areas, leading to an automatic win for UDA. The two wards are Tembelio in Uasin Gishu County and Metkei in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

According to the notice, Reuben Kigen Tobosei was declared the duly elected Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Tembelio Ward in Moiben Constituency, while Philip Kipkosgei Kiprutto was declared the MCA for Metkei Ward in Keiyo South Constituency.
IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon said the declaration was made in line with the law, citing the Commission’s constitutional mandate under Articles 88 (4) and 177 (1) (a) of the Constitution, as well as sections of the Elections Act and Elections (General) Regulations, 2012.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution and the Elections Act, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission makes a declaration of no contest, and the persons listed are duly elected for the electoral units indicated,” the Gazette Notice read in part.

This means the two UDA candidates will assume office without going through a competitive vote.

The IEBC has since urged all participating parties and candidates in the ongoing campaigns to adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct and ensure peaceful and credible polls.
