The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) meeting bringing together DP William Ruto-allied MPs aborted Wednesday after police disrupted the session.

The UDA meeting held at Jarika County Lodge had been organised to give instructions to the political outfit’s agents ahead of March 4 by-elections in the county.

The wards, where polls will be held, are Hell’s Gate and London. UDA has fielded candidates for the positions.

Lang’ata MP Nixon Korir, Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei and Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika were among the leaders present at the UDA meeting, when police stormed the venue.

“We were simply explaining to the polling agents what to do, the processes they should watch out for, and the manner they should conduct themselves while within the polling stations. We were following all the COVID-19 regulations, when police arrived suddenly,” said Boss Shollei.

“They asked us what we were doing, and we told them we were training our polling agents. They, thereafter, asked us for the training notes, the agents’ badges and names. We told them we could not give them the agents’ names. It was then that they disrupted the meeting and ordered us out of the venue within 20 minutes, lest they throw teargas canisters at us,” added Shollei.

In London ward, Jubilee Party has fielded Francis Njoroge, whereas UDA has given its ticket to Antony Nzuki.

In Naivasha’s Hell’s Gate Ward, Jonathan Kuria Warothe will fly the UDA flag, whereas Virginia Wamaitha will represent Jubilee.
